The power steering pump is the key to the power steering system as it has the job of converting energy produced by the engine into hydraulic pressure. The power generated by the hydraulic pressure is sent to the steering system, which boosts the torque.
Power steering pump principlesThe power steering pump has to overlook the operation and make sure that the fluid reached the vehicle's power steering system. Another key component is the rotor which rotates and gives the fluid access to the pump as well as the reservoir. Once in the reservoir of the power steering system, it assists the steering gear in applying the right amount of pressure to ensure a smooth turn.
The power steering pump is controlled by the crankshaft through the serpentine belt. The high-pressure hydraulic hose conducts fluid pressure from the control valve with a hose that recirculates the fluid to the pump. With the help of the control valve, the fluid pressure can be directed in sync with the steering wheel.
Common problems with a faulty power steering pumpA steering pump is a crucial part of the vehicle. A bad power steering pump can lead to leaks, noises (such as whining), and unresponsiveness from the steering wheel.
