About Cadillac DTS

Serving as a relic to the Cadillac's past, Cadillac DTS was produced by an American multinational corporation General Motors Company's Cadillac Motor Car Division between 2005 to 2011 as a full-size luxury car. Originally introduced to replace the Cadillac DeVille, DTS becomes Cadillac's largest luxury car since the 2006 model year. "DTS" in its name is short for DeVille Touring Sedan or D-Series Touring Sedan. Used as a Presidential State car, the last DTS rolled off the assembly line on May 27, 2011, and it was eventually replaced by the Cadillac XTS after only being manufactured for one generation.
Cadillac DTS made its debut at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show on February 9, 2005, for the 2006 model year as a 4-door notchback sedan and a 4-door limousine. It came in four trim levels: Base, Luxury, Premium and Performance, the latter was replaced by Platinum in 2009. Built at the GM G platform, DTS has standard industry features including multiple airbags, bi-functional xenon high-intensity discharge HID headlamps, leather seating and power seats as well as an optional navigation system, Magnetic Ride Control, moonroof, chrome wheels, heated/cooled seats and a heated steering wheel. And it was powered by a 4.6 L V8 engine rated at 275 bhp and 292-295 lb-ft of torque and a 4.6 L V8 engine producing 291-291 horsepower and 286-288 pound-feet of torque, and both engines sent power through a 4-speed automatic transmission to the front wheels.

Cadillac DTS Common Problems & Maintenance Tips

Offering the traditional American big-car virtues of spaciousness and a quiet, well-cushioned ride, Cadillac DTS was very popular with those who valued the traditional large America luxury car. But due to its design, engineering, interior materials, precision build quality and handling dynamics were behind the times, you had better focus on these common problems on your DTS:
First, would not start is the worst reported problem with the Cadillac DTS apart from other issues according to online car repair statistics site CarComplaints.com. And this is obviously an engine problem that happens when the vehicle reaches about 65,000 miles. Since this issue may result in the breakdown of the vehicle, you are advised to learn about symptoms of this issue and get them solved as early as possible. Some experienced DTS drivers said at first, you may smell an odor of fuel in the car or see smoke coming from the engine, oil puddling under the car. Next, the engine would suffer from performance issues such as misfiring, stalling or hard starting. Once you notice the vehicle hesitates while acceleration, consumes excessive oil consumption and activates the Check Engine Light, please inspect the DTS fuel injector, oil pan, fuel pump, spark plug, air filter, oil filter and engine mount.
Second, issues on suspension, steering and braking systems are also troublesome for Cadillac DTS drivers. Fortunately, all these problems also have symptoms to indicate where the problems lie. For example, suspension failure often results in vibrations while driving, swerving or nose diving when braking, uneven tire wear, rattling or squeaking noises from underneath the vehicle and poor handling, you could often find the DTS shock absorber, sway bar bushing, strut bearing, and shock and strut mount are the culprits. While steering failure could result from the DTS steering column for roughly operating steering wheel. And you should pay more attention to the DTS brake disc and brake pad for braking failure.
Another point you need to keep in mind is that you should put maintaining vulnerable auto parts of your Cadillac DTS routinely on the priority. After all, some auto parts of it could not last as long as it could. Electrical parts such as DTS parking assist distance sensor, headlight switch and seat switch are exposed to repeated usages, they should be maintained more often. Other parts such as the emblem, wiper arm, windshield wiper, wiper blade, fog light, headlight, and cabin air filter are important parts in creating safe and comfortable driving environment, they should be on your routine maintenance list as well.
In order to make sure your Cadillac DTS has a longer life, you had better choose OEM Cadillac DTS auto parts as parts replacements.
